Theories of Modernism
and Postmodernism in the Visual Arts began as a series of invited lectures, 2004-2008, in which major art historians meditated on the principal theories of twentieth-century art. Each speaker gave two successive lectures and participated in a taped seminar conversation. The lectures and seminar were then published as a book.
The series preface, which will be reprinted in all the books, is here.
